Mad Mex - State College, PA

Date of dining experience: October 22, 2016

Place: Mad Mex

Location: 240 S. Pugh St. in State College, PA

Chips and Dip - The chips were fantastic, but the regular salsa was not very good. It was really just diced tomatoes in a bowl and didn't have much flavor at all. The next time I try this restaurant I will get the chips again, but I will be getting one of their many other dips instead of the regular salsa.

Entree: Chicken Mole Burrito - Grilled chicken breast, black beans, and Jack cheese, served with a rich, dark Mexican mole sauce ($10.50). This was pretty good, but the vast majority of the burrito was the black beans. I didn't really care for the flavor of the mole sauce here, but I will be trying something different next time.

Beer: Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest - A delicious hoppy version of the standard beer for October.

Try this place out for yourself and let me know what you think! I'm always open to suggestions of food to try at any restaurant! Enjoy!

My My Chicken - State College, PA

Date of dining experience: October 8, 2016

Place: My My Chicken and Provisions

Location: 536 Westerly Pkwy. in State College, PA

First of all, I apologize for not posting many restaurant reviews recently. However, as most of you know, my wife and I quit teaching to go to graduate school full time. It is much more cost-effective to prepare casseroles and crock pot dinners. That being said, I have a couple new ones for you!

So, My My Chicken is currently a take-out only restaurant, but they are working on adding a new dining area. Unfortunately, this is the only place in all of State College that has fried chicken. There is not even a KFC! I don't eat fried chicken very often, but I really wish there were other options.

Meal: Fried Chicken - The outside was okay, but the meat didn't have much meat to it. The worst part is between the two there was a rather thick layer of uncooked breading that made the whole thing awful. Now, I try things at least twice to make sure if my first impression was either right or wrong, so I'll eventually try it again once more. I hope it is better the second time, especially since this is the only fried chicken place in State College!

Side 1: Cole Slaw - This recipe was not to our taste, so we will not be getting it again as a side.

Side 2: Baked Beans - I love baked beans, but not these. They had a weird taste to them and the beans were hard as if they were uncooked. We will not be getting this side again either.

Side 3: Mac and Cheese - This was actually very good for being from a restaurant. We will try this side again.

I hear this restaurant has very good Korean-style chicken. I may try that in the future. If you have any experience with this restuarant, please let me know. Otherwise, give it a try and let me know about your meal! Enjoy!
