Prison Brews - Jefferson City, MO

Date of dining experience: December 31, 2015

Place: Prison Brews

Location: 305 Ash St. in Jefferson City, MO

Entree: Teriyaki Sesame Salmon ($15.99) - Grilled salmon glazed in a teriyaki sesame sauce, served with steamed vegetables. This was a great dish. The teriyaki wasn't overpowering and there wasn't too much of it. I'm a little hesitant to order teriyaki dishes because a lot of places seem to just pour a bowl of it onto whatever you are eating.

Beer: Sampler Platter
1. Go to Jail Ale - light pale ale (4.6 ABV)
2. I Ain't Your Honey Wheat - similar to a hefeweizen (4.8 ABV)
3. Warden's Winter Ale - seasonal red ale (7.2 ABV)
4. Prison Town Brown - typical brown "session beer" (4.8 ABV)
5. Maximum Sentence IPA - brewed with two kinds of hops (6.8 ABV)
6. Hard Time IPA - brewed with two other kinds of hops, then dry hopped (7.0 ABV)
7. Parole Porter - black ale (5.6 ABV)

I happened to be in Jeff City playing a New Year's Eve gig and needed a place to eat dinner. This nice little brewery is just about the only place to go in Jeff City. I would absolutely hate to live there. The entire city is based around politics and corporate offices, so almost the entire city shuts down in the early evening.

This is the only brewery in Jeff City as well. If you find yourself passing through, give it a try! I think the microsampler to try all seven of their beers was only $11. And the pours were about half a beer, not just tiny little tastes!

I definitely recommend this place for what it is and where it is. Give it a try sometime and let me know what you think. Enjoy!
